Now you can purchase the production (black) model via RED.com. Also, there are options to buy the starter pack and the production pack. Read on.

Black (production) Komodo is a go!

RED has finally launched the production model of the Komodo. Till now, only the ST (Stormtrooper) was available to order directly by emailing RED’s CEO. The ST is the pre-production model. Now, the black model, which is the production model can be ordered for $1,000 less than the pre-production (without the Hydrogen discount) on the RED Digital Cinema website. Moreover, there are two packs of kits offered by RED:

Komodo Starter Pack: $7,200

RED knows the job. One of the coolest things is the demonstrations and new info offered in the Komodo section on RED’s website. That covers up the not-so-professional videos users published with their ST cameras. Note that this camera shoots RAW, and when you’re shooting RAW you need some vast knowledge in color-grading. This subdirectory contains some educational content deals with the advantages of the global shutter and more info about the camera. For instance, for the first time, the formal specs are being revealed.

Final thoughts

RED gave Panasonic 2 hours of grace before they sent the emails. It’s an aggressive marketing move without a doubt. But it’s also a smart move. Now, who will be talking about the BGH1?
