Sony’s elite family of cinema cameras, CineAlta, is expanding. How do we know? First, Sony has released a teaser with the name of the new camera – BURANO. Second, we’ve just tried the new camera ourselves. This is going to sell like hotcakes.

The CineAlta brand

According to Wikipedia: “CineAlta cameras are a series of professional digital movie cameras produced by Sony that replicate many of the same features of 35mm film motion picture cameras”. According to Sony: “CineAlta stands now for cutting edge technologies, delivering unprecedented dynamic range, wider color gamuts and incredible clarity to every image. And with our flagship full-frame motion picture camera, VENICE, we’ve not only matched the quality of 35mm but surpassed it. Our digital cinematography solutions have come a long way since 1999, but our mission remains the same: to unlock the creative possibilities of cinema through our endless pursuit of technological perfection”. The CineAlta brand is part of the Cinema Line cameras. The Cinema Line cameras are FX9, FX6, FX3, and FX30. The CineAlta brand consists of the VENICE (1 & 2), and now the BURANO has joined in.

Sony BURANO

Sony has released a teaser about the new camera titled: “BURANO is coming—September 12th, 2023 — 15:00 BST / 16:00 CET”. According to the teaser, it’s a CineAlta camera (the CineAlta logo is shown), which means this beast will be joining the big league together with the acclaimed VENICE. We can’t say much about BURANO. We can share, though, that we tried, tested it, and saw the footage, and we think that Sony is going to sell a lot of it, and it will be accepted very well among many professional cinematographers and independent filmmakers, who focused on a wide variety of projects — narrative, documentaries, commercials, and more. Anyway, stay tuned for the upcoming September 12th. Meanwhile, enjoy the teaser:
