The arrival of the Sony FX5 has coincided with a notable change in the Amazon price of the Sony FX3A. According to Amazon’s 30-day price-history data, the FX3A had been selling for approximately $3,898. Its current Amazon price has returned to $4,298, which Amazon identifies as the camera’s highest price during the past 30 days. That represents a price increase of: $400 (approximately 10.3%). The FX3 discount has disappeared
Before the FX5 launch, the FX3A’s Amazon price of $3,898 created a gap of approximately $1,002 between the two cameras. Why is that?

The smaller gap makes the FX5 easier to consider

When the difference was around $1,000, many buyers could reasonably decide that the FX3 provided the functions they needed at a meaningful saving. With the difference reduced to around $600, the FX5 becomes easier to justify for buyers who value its newer sensor architecture, internal RAW workflow, Open Gate capability and longer-term position within Sony’s Cinema Line. The higher FX3 price therefore does not necessarily make the FX3 more competitive. It may instead encourage some buyers to move upward to the FX5.
