Canon R5 C is Netflix Approved

The Canon EOS R5 C was announced at the beginning of 2022. The R5 C is a full-featured still photo camera with all the settings of the R5 EOS mirrorless camera. When switched in the other direction, it becomes a full-frame 8K60 Cinema EOS camera that internally records 12-bit Cinema RAW Light footage. As stated by Canon: “The R5 C marks a special milestone for Canon, as we introduce a high-quality and high-performance hybrid model that combines the video performance and high reliability of the Cinema EOS System and the still image performance of the EOS R5”. Indeed, the camera is a solid hybridization of the R5 and C70 from the cinema line. It has a ‘Cinema’ interface and capabilities, a full-frame sensor, and an 8K resolution. However, for some reason, rumors suggested that the camera has been rejected by Netflix. Anyway, now it got approved. Hence, you can shoot Netflix 4K Originals with it, as the main camera on set.

  1. Does anyone know what exactly Canon did to improve log-3 to get Netflix approval for the R5c.

    • The gamma curve was adjusted for a bit more shadow detail. I don’t know if that got it Netflix certification, but it more closely matches my Komodo

  2. The R5-C is a joke, as are any cameras that have an insulting micro-HDMI port as their only video output. Just pathetic.
