Sony FX5 Launch Pushes the FX3 Back to Its Highest Amazon Price

The arrival of the Sony FX5 has coincided with a notable change in the Amazon price of the Sony FX3A. According to Amazon’s 30-day price-history data, the FX3A had been selling for approximately $3,898. Its current Amazon price has returned to $4,298, which Amazon identifies as the camera’s highest price during the past 30 days. That represents a price increase of: $400 (approximately 10.3%). The increase occurred shortly after Sony officially introduced the FX5 on July 22, 2026. Sony positions the FX5 above the FX3 within its compact Cinema Line range, with a U.S. body-only price of approximately $4,900.

The FX3 discount has disappeared

Before the FX5 launch, the FX3A’s Amazon price of $3,898 created a gap of approximately $1,002 between the two cameras. At the current $4,298 Amazon price, the difference has narrowed to approximately $602. Sony’s official U.S. list price for the FX3A is $4,299.99, meaning Amazon has effectively returned the camera to its full retail level. Sony describes the FX3A as a compact full-frame Cinema Line camera with 4K recording at up to 120p, 10-bit 4:2:2 internal recording, active cooling and an included XLR handle. The earlier $3,898 price was therefore not a new permanent price. It was effectively a $400 discount that is no longer available through the featured Amazon offer shown in the price-history data.

Why is that?

The price movement does not prove that the FX5 launch directly caused Amazon to raise the FX3 price. Amazon prices can change because of promotions, inventory levels, featured-seller changes and retailer pricing decisions. However, the timing produces a more clearly defined product hierarchy. At $3,898, the FX3 was more than $1,000 less expensive than the FX5. That made it easier to position the FX3 as the significantly more affordable compact Cinema Line option. At $4,298, the FX3 is only around $600 below the FX5. The buyer is now comparing two cameras whose body prices are separated by approximately 14% of the FX3’s current price. That changes the purchasing calculation.

The smaller gap makes the FX5 easier to consider

The FX5 introduces a newer imaging and processing platform. Sony lists a newly developed 5K full-frame stacked Exmor RS CMOS sensor, BIONZ XR2 processing, Open Gate recording and internal X-OCN recording among its principal features. When the difference was around $1,000, many buyers could reasonably decide that the FX3 provided the functions they needed at a meaningful saving. With the difference reduced to around $600, the FX5 becomes easier to justify for buyers who value its newer sensor architecture, internal RAW workflow, Open Gate capability and longer-term position within Sony’s Cinema Line. The higher FX3 price therefore does not necessarily make the FX3 more competitive. It may instead encourage some buyers to move upward to the FX5.

Bottom line

Amazon’s 30-day data shows that the Sony FX3A has risen from approximately $3,898 to $4,298, an increase of $400. The current price is the highest recorded during that period and places the FX3 only approximately $602 below the newly launched FX5. The timing does not establish direct causation, but it does create a tighter and more deliberate-looking price structure within Sony’s compact Cinema Line. The main point is straightforward: the FX3 discount has disappeared just as the FX5 enters the market, making the price difference between the two cameras considerably smaller.
