Blackmagic has released Camera 10.2.2 for the Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K, adding up to 10 minutes of pre-record, 4-channel audio recording, Blackmagic Cloud stream routing, and a much broader autofocus implementation. The autofocus development itself is not entirely new: We reported in February on an unreleased pre-beta firmware that showed Blackmagic aggressively refining PDAF and subject tracking on the Cinema Camera 6K. What has changed is that those capabilities are now becoming part of the official camera software, alongside production tools that have already appeared elsewhere in Blackmagic’s camera lineup.
Camera 10.2.2 brings production features already deployed across Blackmagic’s PYXIS and broadcast ecosystem to the full-frame Cinema Camera 6K.
10 minutes before pressing record
The most immediately useful addition is pre-record. Camera 10.2.2 allows the Cinema Camera 6K to continuously cache footage and append up to 10 minutes of material captured before the operator actually presses the record button. Blackmagic provides selectable pre-record durations starting at 5 seconds and extending through 10 minutes. The camera continuously records into its cache, but only the selected period preceding the record command is preserved with the resulting clip. This is particularly relevant for documentary, news, wildlife and live-event work, where the moment that matters can happen before an operator has time to react. But pre-record itself is not new to Blackmagic. Camera 10.0, released in December 2025, brought the same capability to the PYXIS 6K, PYXIS 12K and URSA Broadcast G2, together with 4-channel audio recording. The Cinema Camera 6K is now receiving those production features as well.

The autofocus story reaches an official release
In February, we examined an experimental pre-beta build for the Cinema Camera 6K that focused heavily on PDAF development. That firmware showed improvements in face retention, subject switching behavior and the responsiveness of the tracking interface, but it was unreleased software and could not be treated as a production firmware release. Camera 10.2.2 changes that position. Blackmagic now lists phase detect autofocus, continuous autofocus, face detection and object detection for the Cinema Camera 6K. Operators can adjust autofocus transition speed, assign AF mode switching to shortcut keys, and temporarily pause continuous autofocus by holding the focus button. The progression is also interesting when viewed alongside the PYXIS 6K. Blackmagic Camera 10.2 brought PDAF and Blackmagic Cloud stream routing to the PYXIS 6K in June. Camera 10.2.2 now extends those capabilities to the Cinema Camera 6K. That makes this release less about Blackmagic suddenly discovering autofocus and more about the company distributing a developing feature set across its camera ecosystem.
Four-channel audio and Cloud streaming move over too
The same pattern can be seen beyond autofocus. Four-channel audio recording allows the Cinema Camera 6K to capture two additional audio channels, useful when separating talent microphones, ambient audio and reference tracks while keeping everything synchronized inside the recorded file. Blackmagic Cloud stream routing also arrives with 10.2.2. The camera can route a live stream through Blackmagic Cloud back to a studio or distribute streams to multiple platforms. Cloud stream routing was another feature introduced to the PYXIS 6K with Camera 10.2. Taken together, these additions shift the Cinema Camera 6K further toward production environments that were never defined purely by image quality. Pre-record deals with reaction time. Four-channel audio expands field recording options. Continuous subject tracking reduces the dependency on manual focus for certain shooting configurations. Cloud routing addresses remote and live workflows. The interesting part is where those features are coming from. Blackmagic has been building out the PYXIS and broadcast side of its camera ecosystem with tools aimed at more flexible production, and Camera 10.2.2 brings several of those capabilities back to the Cinema Camera 6K. For existing owners, that is arguably more consequential than any single item in the release notes. The Cinema Camera 6K hardware has not changed, but the type of production it can reasonably handle continues to expand through firmware.
