Irix 15mm Cine Lens Announced: An Affordable Wide-Angle Full-Frame Cinema Glass

Today Irix premieres its fast, filter-ready wide-angle cine lens, the Irix Cine 15mm T2.6. This 15mm is a new member of the Irix’s affordable cinema lenses family which now includes an 11mm ultra-wide-angle lens, a standard 45mm lens, and a 150mm macro telephoto lens.

Irix Cine 15mm T2.6

The Irix 15mm is a fast, wide-angle, low distortion yet affordable lens that is dedicated to full-frame coverage. The lens completes the Cine-lens family which consists of four lenses in total, including a macro lens. The focal length is 11mm, 45, and 150mm (macro), and now a 15mm. The Irix Cine 15mm T2.6 is a Full Frame lens (43,3mm), covering Full Frame 35, Super 35, Red Dragon 6K, Arri Alexa, APS-C, MFT, Super 16 and other sensors.

Fully weather-sealed construction

According to Irix, the lens is constructed with rubber seals placed in all crucial points to ensure safety from rain and dust. Furthermore, due to the aluminum-magnesium alloy construction, the lens only weighs 1kg.

Irix Cine 15mm T2.6 is available in Canon EF, Sony E, MFT, and PL mounts, each with either metric or imperial focus markings.

Price and availability

As explained, the Irix Cine lenses are good value for money. The 15mm lens costs $1,195 which is considered affordable for a cinema lens. This is probably the most affordable large-format cine lens in the market. The Irix 15mm can be preordered from B&H.

Final thoughts

We glad to see new affordable cinema lenses that can cover full-frame sensors. The Irix-cine lenses are good investment especially when the set has extended. Those lenses characterized by decent build quality and versatility that are valid factors in cinema glass. However, we haven’t seen one sample footage from the 15mm yet.
