Sony Sets the Stage for the FX3: The New ‘Cinema Line’ Camera

Five days after we’ve reported about the rumored Sony FX3, Sony has announced that new addition to the Cinema Line family is coming. The introduction of the new camera will be in a live event on 23 February at 3 PM GMT / 4 PM CET. Get ready for a new compact cinema camera.

“New Cinematic Freedom”

The live event that was announced just a minute ago, will be focused on a new Cinema Line Camera. According to Sony, in that event, the official announcement and details will be revealed about the “exciting new model”. Furthermore, an exclusive Sony webinar including an in-depth look at the camera’s new features and interviews with filmmakers testing it in the field will be presented. Moreover, this event is headlined as “New Cinematic Freedom”, which may indicate the compact form factor of the camera. You can join the special announcement and online event via YouTube:

Sony FX3: The new anticipated member of the Cinema Line

As we’ve reported previously, there’s a big chance that this forthcoming camera will be the leaked FX3, which is kind of a special product due to its hybridization between the Cinema Line and the Alpha models. That can indicate on a new entry-level cinema camera, that aims to complete the professional line that is characterized by five criteria:

  1. Full-frame image sensors – high sensitivity and resolution, wide dynamic range
  2. Color science – delivering a rich filmic, cinematic look, with the flexibility to customize creative expression
  3. Auto Focus
  4. Small and lightweight bodies
  5. Professional and intuitive interfaces with improved ergonomics

Specs and more

No specs nor prices are confirmed. However, there are rumors regarding 4K, high FPS, and without 8K recording capabilities. Nevertheless, if you’re asking us, the main advantage of this new little beast would be the VENICE color science that characterizes the Cinema Line. In regard to the price, a more affordable cost compared to the FX6 is expected, which is about $4,000 (the FX6 costs $6,000). Anyway, let’s wait 6 more days. We’ll keep you posted so stay tuned.
