Thanks to the Japanese camera rumors website Nokishita, we have some reliable info regarding the expected superfast ZEISS Otus 100MM F/1.4 lens. Here are some images, specs, and price (not a cheap one).

The Zeiss Otus 1.4/100 lens will be available for Canon and Nikon DSLRs in two models, ZE (for Canon EF-mount mount cameras) and ZF.2 (for Nikon F mounts).  The 100mm F/1.4 will join the family which consists of 3 lenses: 28mm, 55mm and 85mm all the f/1.4 aperture.

Made for photographers, used by filmmakers

The ZEISS Otus lenses were initially designed for photographers to get the optimal image result even when shooting at the largest aperture of f/1.4. With 4K productions becoming the new industry standard ZEISS Otus lenses are also have been utilized by filmmakers. The lenses are characterized by high contrast, practically no color fringes, no distortion when shooting wide open.

Although the Otus is not defined as cinema lenses series, the long focus throw allows some cinematography advantages as well as the 8K resolution capability since the Otus series is capable of full-frame sensor coverage

Price

The Otus lenses are not cheap. As written above, they own cinema lenses characteristics but are not defined as cinema lenses. However, they are defiantly cost as cinema lenses with a price tag of $5,000. That might be the same price for the expected 100mm. 

Final thoughts

The ZEISS Otus lenses are a good example of photography lenses that have great potential for filmmaking utilization. However, at this price point, it might be worth checking out some real cinema lenses alternatives.
