Z CAM has unveiled the E1N, an extremely compact network camera built around a 1-inch CMOS sensor, capable of 4K at up to 60 frames per second with 10-bit color. The camera also incorporates an interchangeable Micro Four Thirds lens mount, NDI HX3, PoE+, and Z CAM’s EzLink multicamera synchronization technology. The company is presenting the E1N at IBC 2026 under the simple slogan “When Size Matters.” And in Z CAM’s case, that statement carries some history. The E1N is not another traditional cinema camera. Instead, it appears designed for applications where physical size, remote operation, IP connectivity, and flexible mounting are more important than building a conventional cinema-camera rig. That could make it relevant for multicamera production, live events, studios, remote cameras, robotics, POV setups, fixed installations, and potentially specialist cinema applications.

A 1-inch sensor inside a tiny interchangeable-lens camera
The headline specification is the combination of a 1-inch CMOS sensor and Micro Four Thirds lens mount. A 1-inch sensor is considerably larger than the sensors commonly found inside many traditional PTZ, security, broadcast remote, or compact network cameras. At the same time, it allows the E1N body to remain much smaller than most Super 35 or full-frame cinema cameras. The MFT mount is equally important. Rather than relying on an integrated zoom or fixed lens, operators can choose from a large ecosystem of compact Micro Four Thirds lenses. Z CAM lists the E1N as supporting:

Small cameras have always been part of Z CAM’s identity
There is also an interesting connection to Z CAM’s history. The company’s original Z CAM E1, introduced in 2015, combined a Micro Four Thirds mount with an unusually compact body and 4K acquisition. Z CAM subsequently expanded significantly with the E2 family, including MFT, Super 35, and full-frame models. The E2-S6 ($5,970.30 on Amazon) brought Super 35 6K acquisition, while the E2-F6 pushed the same compact box-camera philosophy into full-frame 6K territory. And this relatively small camera manufacturer eventually found itself working on some very large Hollywood productions.

From compact cameras to Mission: Impossible
Perhaps the strongest validation of Z CAM’s small-body philosophy came from the Mission: Impossible franchise. YMCinema first spotted the tiny original Z CAM E1 being used as a crash camera during the production of Mission: Impossible 7. Its compact body allowed the production to position cameras in locations where larger cinema systems would have been considerably more difficult to deploy. The full-frame 6K camera became part of the toolkit used for demanding action photography in the Mission: Impossible productions. The reason is fairly straightforward. When filmmakers need to mount a camera extremely close to an actor, attach it to a vehicle, integrate it into a custom action rig, or place it somewhere a conventional cinema package simply cannot fit, reducing the physical footprint becomes a major advantage. The same concept was pushed even further with specialized body-mounted camera systems. The E1N takes the same philosophy somewhere else
The new E1N is clearly not an E2-F6 replacement. Its 1-inch sensor and NDI-oriented architecture indicate a very different target market. But the design philosophy looks familiar. Make the camera small. Keep interchangeable lenses. Give production teams enough image quality and connectivity to put the camera somewhere larger systems cannot conveniently go. That philosophy helped take Z CAM from compact cube cameras to cameras deployed on major Hollywood action productions. With the E1N, Z CAM now appears to be applying the same thinking to the rapidly expanding world of IP-based production, remote cameras, and networked multicamera environments. The combination of a 1-inch sensor, MFT mount, 4K 60p, 10-bit imaging, NDI HX3, PoE+, and multicamera synchronization inside such a small package makes the E1N worth watching.
