Oscars 2023 Figures

Frame.io reporter Lisa McNamara made an extensive analysis regarding Oscars 2023’s figures (crew, budget, shooting days, and post-production) for each of the Best Picture nominees. In continuation to the articles regarding the camera and lens models and the leading manufacturers of the 95th Academy Awards Best Picture and Cinematography nominees, this data is even more intriguing as it shows the figures of every nominee. As explained before — just to be clear here: The survey was crafted by frame.io. We took the data and put it into cool slides and charts. Furthermore, we built a graph that shows the segmentations of these figures (discussion ahead). The movies are All Quiet on the Western Front, Avatar: The Way of Water, The Banshees of Inisherin, Elvis, Everything Everywhere All at Once, The Fabelmans, Tár, Top Gun: Maverick, Triangle of Sadness, and Women Talking. Wrapping up

There are two movies that push forward these numbers: Top Gun: Maverick and Avatar 2. The figures of Avatar 2 are huge, however, they are hard to confirm. For instance, two parameters — Crew and Post- are challenging to calculate since Avatar 2 and Avatar 3 were shot and edited almost simultaneously. That’s the main reason for these undisclosed big numbers, which raise the overall average. Nevertheless, if we look at the Oscars 2020-2023 – Figures Comparison Chart, we can notice a significant tendency regarding the resources invested in films. For instance, in 2021 there was a dramatic reduction due to COVID, which, fortunately, was compensated for Oscars 2022, with a peak observed in Oscars 2023. That’s good news, as an indication that the movie business is booming again, after a long stillness due to COVID. Although considering the push of Avatar 2, this elevation can be interpreted as a solid resurrection of the movie business on the higher end. Sure, this is not an exact science, but still very intriguing info. For further reading see the links below:
