Army of the Dead

The film tells the story of a group of mercenaries that execute an ambitious heist on a Las Vegas casino during a zombie outbreak. The project was first announced in March 2007 produced by Universal Studios and Warner Bros. At the beginning of 2019, Netflix acquired the distribution rights to the project from Warner Bros. with Zack Snyder directing. Then the film entered into principal photography with a reported budget of $90 million. This will be Zack Snyder’s first film after taking a break to focus on his family after his daughter’s death and to collaborate with suicide prevention and awareness causes.

Zack Snyder: Director and cinematographer

Army of the Dead was shot on RED Monstro by Snyder himself. It’s not so common that the film director serves as his own cinematographer, at least not for mega-budget movies. We’re all familiar with directors that have the desire to hold the camera and shoot their movies (Michael Bay for instance), however, being on both roles by definition, DP and director, is quite rare. Obviously, the reason for that combination is not to reduce expenses of production, but to be more involved in the creation process. When you direct and shoot, you’re pushing yourself to the limit of creativity, which is far more satisfying and challenging as well.
