The highly anticipated (and fascinating) camera, Kinefinity MAVO Edge 8K, was supposed to be shipped in September this year. However, it has been delayed. According to Kinefinity Europe, the camera will be sent to end-users (beta testers) in early 2021. Read Kinefinity Europe statement below.
Kinefinity MAVO Edge 8K
The MAVO Edge is a brand-new large-format 8K cine camera announced in April this year. This beast is built with a whole-new carbon fiber camera body, and equipped with an 8K 75P CMOS imaging sensor that allows the privilege of recording 8K ProRes RAW internally to a unique media card, KineMAG Nano. The main differences between the Edge and the “regular” MAVO are More resolution, ProRes RAW, and the carbon fiber body. The price of the MAVO Edge is US$11,999 and the targeted shipping date was Sep 2020. The camera is available to preorder now on the Kinefinity website or authorized dealers. Production delay
This flagship by Kinefinity is facing some delay regarding production and thus the shipping dates are postponed. Michel Juknat from Kinefinity Europe sheds light on the MAVO Edge development status. Let’s read his statement:
“As you all know MAVO Edge’s (already delayed) target shipping date of November 2020 has not been achieved. The good news is that there has been major progress in the camera’s development recently so that we are confident to see the first units of Edge shipped to end-users (in the west) in early 2021 (end of 2020 in China). The bad news is that, even though the camera is highly anticipated by many people and companies, the manufacturer still has to follow certain measures of precaution which prevent them from shipping large quantities right from the start. Therefore we might see only limited quantities in the early weeks after the initial shipments have started. Only after the first reports from actual use in the field come in, and it can be confirmed with absolute certainty that the hardware performs as it should, the production will ramp up and everyone who wants a MAVO Edge will be able to get a MAVO Edge.”
Michel adds that:” Some of you might remember the early days of MAVO LF where there have been serious hardware issues with some early units. With Edge, Kinefinity wants to avoid at all cost such situations”.

Wrapping up
As stated, the MAVO Edge is at the end stages regarding production and expected to be shipped to beta testers in order to ensure that the camera works well. In the meantime, the company doesn’t stand still, and developed other products, like the New Kinekit which is new accessories for both the Terra4k and Mavo Lf and Mavo s35. The Kinefinity MAVO Edge 8K is indeed one of the most intriguing cameras, and we can’t wait to see what it’s capable of. We’ll update you when sample footage are released, so stay tuned.
