Frame.io – A dedicated platform for post-production remote collaboration

Frame.io (Frame) allows you to create projects and collaborating with them by a dedicated interface that allows dragging and dropping files from your computer to Frame’s dashboard. Think of it as a cloud-based collaboration hub (“connective tissue” as Frame defines itself) for post-production (and production). Furthermore, the platform is suited to allow teams to collaborate with other creative entities, like VFX houses, DI facilities, and audio studios, by centralizing all the necessary assets in the cloud. Sharing and organizing the assets are done within a simplified and straightforward interface which consists of desktop and mobile platforms. Frame accepts all file types and codecs. Moreover, Frame operates as stand-alone software, and/or as a dedicated plugin that is integrated with all the major professional NLEs. In case you are not familiar with Frame, check out the video below that demonstrates the basics of the platform.

Workflow From Home

The COVID-19 lockdown situation is forcing us to work from home. Although editors and post professionals are used to it, these current circumstances make editors and assistants to be separated due to social distancing regulations. Thus, the dominant slogan these days is Remote Workflow. That’s why Frame has jumped on the bandwagon by offering a new YouTube series called “Workflow From Home” which educates users on how to utilize Frame’s platform in order to keep the post-production process up and running. Let’s read what Frame says about this series and its goals: “The truth is, a lot of us had already been working from home or, more accurately, working with remote teams in film and video post-production—and in those terms, remote workflows have evolved over time. We developed Frame.io as a cloud-based video work-sharing platform five years ago—not because we planned for people to be forced to work remotely, but because we wanted to enable the kind of creative partnerships that can happen when things like time zones and distance become irrelevant. Furthermore, “Frame.io was really built for this moment” emphasizes Frame CEO and co-founder Emery Wells. “Like many businesses that have been trying to lend a hand during this time of crisis, we too want to do our part. As a product that enables distributed work, we know we’re in a position to help” Wells adds.

The content of the series

According to Frame,  Workflow Form Home will cover a little bit of everything from editing, to visual effects, to conforming, color grading, and mastering to demonstrate how they may be possible in the cloud. The series will be conducted by Global SVP of Innovation Michael Cioni that will take you through the necessary steps to enable a secure and robust remote workflow. In Episode One, Cioni discusses the difference between pure cloud and hybrid cloud workflows, shows you how to measure your internet bandwidth, and shows you how Frame.io can sit at the center of a highly secure and collaborative project. In the next episodes, he’ll get into the how-tos: how to determine your internet bandwidth, how to upload and organize your assets in Frame.io, how to share assets and collaborate with your team, how to relink to original camera files—basically everything you’ll need from start to finish. “We’re all experiencing the same pressure to make a transition, and as we explore options together, we’ll all have a deeper understanding of remote workflow options that may not solve every issue, but will help enable greater collaboration and creative freedom going forward,” Cioni says. Check out the first chapter below:
