New full-frame telephoto lens

According to Tokina, since the last update in June 2020, the company released the atx-i 11-20mm F2.8 CF wide-angle zoom lens, completely new prime lenses atx-m 23mm F1.4 X and atx-m 33mm F1.4 X for Fujifilm X-mount and SZX SUPER TELE 400mm F8 Reflex MF mirror lens for 7 mount systems. In 2021 Tokina plans to release 6 prime lenses for Sony-E Mount (APS-C) and Fujifilm-X mount. Also, the new SUPER TELE 500mm F8 Reflex MF mirror lens with a universal mount system will be released in winter 2021. By 2022, Tokina is developing more wide-angle prime and zoom lenses.

Super Tele 500mm F8

The most intriguing lens to be released this year is the SZ Super Tele 500mm F8 (SZ stands for Satisfaction and Zest). The Super Tele 500mm is supposed to be a successor to the affordable SZX 400mm f/8 Reflex MF which was manufactured as a compact alternative to standard telephoto lenses. The lens owns a “catadioptric design”, usually reserved for telescopes. Tokina says that this design choice makes it the smaller as possible, but at the cost of having the signature ‘donut’ bokeh, the lack of autofocus, and having a fixed aperture. Unfortunately, there are not many reviews about the 400mm version. Anyway, you can get the Tokina SZX 400mm f/8 Reflex MF at a very reasonable price ($224) on Adorama and B&H.
