RED RANGER – The newest in the lineup

The RANGER is the newest camera by RED, features a MONSTRO 35.4 Megapixel (40.96 mm × 21.60 mm) CMOS sensor with 17+ stops of dynamic range. The camera is capable of capturing 60 FPS at 8K resolution.

The RANGER is defined as a all-in-one camera system that includes three SDI outputs (two mirrored and one independent) allowing two different looks to be output simultaneously; wide-input voltage (11.5V to 32V); 24V and 12V power outs (two of each); one 12V P-Tap port; integrated 5-pin XLR stereo audio input (Line/Mic/+48V Selectable); as well as genlock, timecode, USB and control.

Jarred Land – RED CEO

According to RED, the RANGER is ideal for studio configurations. Furthermore, the  RANGER is capable of handling heavy-duty power sources and boasts a larger fan for quieter and more efficient temperature management.

Rental-only product (NOT FOR SALE)

The  RED RANGER is a rental-only camera, as stated by RED’s CEO Jarred Land: “These cameras as you can imagine are pretty expensive to make in low quantities. It doesn’t really make sense unless you buy at least 10 of them. The rental houses were smart and after a discussion I had with them as a group at Cinegear, this is the result”

Price and availability

As explained, this is a rental only product, unless, enough quantity is ordered. How much is enough? Probably beyond 10 cameras ordered. Also, there is no defined price for the RANGER. The sensor itself costs $54,500, so do your simple math for the estimated price.
