Gates Announced the Deep Komodo: A Dive Housing for the Baby Dragon

The first dive housing for the RED Komodo has been announced. This DK (Deep Komodo) allows you to take your baby Dragon deep into the ocean (250 feet / 76 meters). As for the price, it’s not a cheap product but not extremely expensive as well (compared to other Gates products). The cost is $8,000 for the housing, which means for 10k you will be good to go underwater.

The DK (Deep Komodo) is an underwater professional solution by Gates Underwater Products for the RED Komodo. Gates is a company that specializes in developing dive housing for cinema cameras. The company mantra is:” Don’t take a chance….take a GATES!” which symbolizes the high-reliability characteristics of their products. Indeed, when you need to take a fully equipped cinema camera underwater, you need the best housing that can protect your precious tool in one of the harshest environment exist for cinematographers. With that said, the prices of those housing are high to target professional ocean cinematographers. For those who are eager to shoot underwater without breaking the bank, you should check out those Salty Surf Housings designed for the Komodo. These robust housings are CNC machined from a single block of billet aluminum that allows a unique strength to weight ratio. The price is much more affordable than the Gates (about $4,500). However, keep in mind that the Salty Surf was not designed for divers, but more for water-sports since their maximum depth rating is 20m / 66ft.
