Here is some big news regarding the streaming industry. HBO Max has just announced that the service will support 4K Ultra HD, HDR 10, Dolby Vision, and Dolby Atmos technologies in order to enhance the immersiveness and thus upgrade the viewing experience. Those viewing technologies will be initially implemented on the highly anticipated Wonder Woman 1984 film. Read on.

As it’s already known, due to COVID, the highly anticipated film, WW84 (Wonder Woman 1984) will be released simultaneously in some theaters and on HBO Max as the steaming option. WW84 was set to open in domestic theaters on December 25, 2020, in 2D and 3D in select theaters and IMAX. The film will also premiere on HBO Max in the U.S. on December 25, 2020. WW84 deserves the best viewing experience, no doubt about that. The film was shot entirely on film cameras, including the mighty IMAX 9802, in order to be viewed on the huge canvas.

Moreover, last week we wrote an article about the limited resolution HBO Max grants. For now, this streaming service allows only a Full-HD viewing experience, which caused some frustrations among WW84 enthusiasts. However, it seems that HBO Max has just addressed that issue, by overcoming the barriers of not only resolution limitation but also for sound and HDR. WarnerMedia announced that WW84 will be the first film on HBO Max available In 4K, HDR 10, Dolby Vision, and Dolby Atmos viewing technologies.

WarnerMedia: “HBO Max will expand these capabilities to further films and TV series”

According to WarnerMedia, those 4K HDR and Dolby capabilities will be implemented into more films and TV series, As stated in the press release: “It was announced today by director Patty Jenkins that WONDER WOMAN 1984 will become the first title on HBO Max available in 4K Ultra HD, HDR 10, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos when it premieres December 25. This premium viewing experience will be available on supported devices including Apple TV 4K, Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K, Amazon Fire TV Cube and 4K Fire TV Edition smart TVs, Chromecast Ultra, AT&T TV and supported Android TV devices. HBO Max will expand these capabilities to further films and TV series, as well as adding support for additional devices, throughout 2021”. This is a major announcement and huge obligation by WarnerMedia that opens the door to compete with Netflix which is the mother of 4K streaming.

Only for U.S viewers

Unfortunately, HBO Max is currently only supported in the U.S. and certain U.S. territories. That means a lot of us will not be able to watch WW84. For instance, here in Israel, the theaters are closed, and HBO Max is not relevant. Thus, there is no option to view it, (we haven’t seen Tenet either), and that’s a shame. Nevertheless, kudos to HBO Max for this blessed solution.
